1996 Atlanta Olympic LogoOn my way to St. Louis from my home in Florida I plan to visit Atlanta to capture the spirit of the 1996 Olympic Games and relate it to golf in some way. The Atlanta Games celebrated 100 years of the modern Olympics which started in 1896 in Athens, Greece.

I will visit Centennial Park (this is Wiki description).

Official Website for Centennial Olympic Park.

This is pretty cool- 39 Olympic logos from 1924 to 2012!

But I want the one from St. Louis in 1904!

While in Atlanta I plan to visit the grave site of Bobby Jones in Oakland Cemetery. He perhaps more than any other golfer personifies what constitutes the Olympic Spirit of Golfers. The world was smaller then and his travels to St. Andrews, Scotland seem as heroic as the globe trotting of today’s modern players.

On a side note I hope to play Atlanta CC, site of the very first THE PLAYERS Championship in 1974 which was won by Jack Nicklaus. I also hope to play Colonial CC in Fort Worth, Texas, site of the 1975 PLAYERS won by Al ‘Mr. 59′ Geiberger. Having played Inverrary (1975), Sawgrass CC (East/West) and the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass that would make it a lay down PLAYERS royal straight in my mind!  Did I tell you I am a big PLAYERS fan, volunteer and wanna be historian?
